What is MFT in football?

MFT comes from the initials of Shutli's three live analysis layers: Momentum, the expected-goals axis represented by xG, and Tempo. Each layer measures a different face of the match: momentum tracks the direction of pressure, xG the quality of the chances created, and tempo the speed of the game.

MFT Composite is the central component in which the Toprak model merges these three readings into one decision score. The goal is to capture what individual indicators miss: when there are shots but the pressure cannot be sustained, or pressure without real chances, the composite score reflects that contradiction.

The MFT score runs from 0 to 100 and is produced separately for each team. High values indicate sustained pressure phases in which several indicators point the same way; when one metric is high but the others are weak, the score stays more cautious. That is why MFT can differ from the arithmetic average of the three numbers, and it is meant to.

In reading it, the trend matters more than the instant value: a steadily rising MFT line shows the game evolving in one team's favour. Because context variables such as the scoreline, the minute and the character of the league enter the evaluation, two matches that look alike can draw different MFT profiles.

MFT Composite is the decision component at the centre of the Shutli ecosystem and feeds three main outputs. The first is live goal signals: the model publishes an automatic signal when the pressure indicated by the composite score becomes sustainable. The second is pre-match insights: the MFT patterns of similar past matches are the core input of the insights produced before kick-off.

The third is the analysis surfaces themselves: the MFT trend and its component breakdown summarise the current photograph of the game on match detail pages. The details of how the score is computed live inside the model; what the user sees is a transparent, traceable reading of the result.
